Daily stats
Start: 6:40 AM -
Highland Beach (23 miles SE of Chokoloskee, FL)
Finish:
4:20 PM – Flamingo, Everglades National Park
Time: 9:40
Daily dist: 38 miles
Total dist: 2,110 miles
Companions: None
Notes:  Partly cloudy.  Sheltered water.

Jake called me tonight (actually I had to call him at a payphone) from Flamingo Florida.  He had a great day paddling the inside route on the Wilderness Waterway.  Jake expects to reach Key Largo tomorrow and is trying to plan the next few days around the wind and weather.  Jake is very excited about catching up with friends in Ft. Lauderdale.  Right now the plan is for tomorrow to be the last day of the “Gulf Leg” and the start of the “Atlantic Leg” of Jake’s journey.  Stay tuned for further updates once Jake reaches “civilization”.

Carolyn,
I did speak to Jake, but your youngest took care of the last post.
PS He didn't mention seeing any Queen sneakes, but he did see 2 dead manatees.

I apologise, but I have to comment on previous discussion of critters Jake needs to look out for. Carolyn's Queen Sneaks, I mean Queen Snakes could be endangered, so don't go messin' with them. Happy trails. Or in your case, Jake, Happy waves. Lois, with a big hug from the La Crosse, Wi supporters.

OK people enough about the Queen Sneakes already!!!! I've explained that I'm not the best typist in the world, but then again, I'm not the best speller either. In a way, it's kind of nice to be able to explain everything away by just saying I don't know how to type. My dirty little secret is out.

At least it wasn't Queen Sneakers! They're more dangerous!

Sorry Lynn I couldn't resist!

Jake, you should go eat at Mrs. Mac's Kitchen in Key Largo this evening. There's no better reward for completing your Gulf leg!
